ACVTEC, Job Corps, and UAA Tour

Ten AGSD High School students had an amazing tour of AVTEC in Seward, UAA in Anchorage, and Job Corps in Palmer from February 10th-12th. Each institution offered a first hand look at training and education opportunities after graduation!

College and Career Learning Experiences

Juniors and Seniors - We have two upcoming opportunities for you to learn more about options right here in Alaska to help you prepare for your future career! Please fill out this quick form to let us know if you are interested in attending one, both, or neither opportunity to UAA/AVTEC/Job Corps and UAF. Please contact Mr. Tad Dunning with any questions.

ASVAB: Coming Soon

Picture
All 10th grade students will be taking this assessment as well as any 11th-12th grade students who either have not yet taken the test or would like to raise their score on a previous assessment.

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career.

Work Study

Picture
The Alaska Gateway School District's Work Study Program has been very successful in helping students prepare for their future careers by matching them with community partners. Eligible junior and senior students are paid through AGSD's RAVE grant and earn elective credit for their work in the community while gaining important career skills. AGSD is currently working with 11 community partners and approximately 20 work study students. Students can also earn high school credit for jobs they already have outside of the program if they participate in the goal setting, evaluation, and reflection process. Please contact Mr. Blair Seawell with any questions about the program or view the Work Study Informational Packet.
